The appendix is a tube-shaped organ that is attached to the large intestine. An appendectomy is a surgical procedure that involves the removal of the appendix to treat tumors, cancer and/or appendicitis, a condition where the appendix is inflamed. Our surgeon, Dr. Prasad is highly experienced in removing the appendix through both open surgery and minimally invasive procedures.
What Causes Appendicitis?
When your appendix is blocked due to an infection, a foreign body, stool, or cancer, it becomes swollen and inflamed. Bacteria and pus build up inside the organ, causing pain around the belly button and at the lower right section of the abdomen.
Symptoms of Appendicitis
Some of the symptoms of an appendix disorder include:
- Pain that starts around the belly button which then shifts to the lower right abdomen.
- Abdominal swelling
- Loss of appetite
